Description:
The Salt Lake Tribune is looking for an experienced reporter (minimum of five years) to work as part of a close-knit team covering state government and politics. Team responsibilities span a wide range of offices and activities. Coverage includes the governor’s office, Legislature (part-time), attorney general’s office (policy matters, excluding most criminal and civil cases), lieutenant governor’s office and state elections (including lobbyist registration and financial disclosures and campaign finance involving candidates, PACs and corporations), treasurer and auditor and a variety of executive and legislative agencies. Also, the team covers federal and state elections, which may include initiatives and referenda (but not county or municipal elections.) Taxes and budget, and church-politics overlaps are topics of particular interest. The qualified candidate should have demonstrated ability to balance daily stories with mid- and long-range enterprise. She or he needs to be fast, accurate and dogged. Computer assisted reporting skills are a plus. Ability to work in tandem with two other self-motivated, highly creative and hard-driving reporters is essential. The reporter selected for this position should expect to share the grunt work along with the good stuff.
