2008 Conference Scholarship
The following is our scholarship policy for Capitolbeat 2008 in Raleigh. Please note that the application deadline is Sunday, Sept. 7. Please forward any question to email@example.com or leave a comment on this post.
Capitolbeat understands the cost of traveling to a conference can be challenging for some newsrooms and reporters. That is why we will offer scholarship opportunities for those who are planning to attend Capitolbeat 2008 in Raleigh.
Scholarships will be granted based on the availability of funds and need of applicants. Priority for scholarships will be given to those coming from small and mid-sized papers and those traveling from longer distances.
Capitolbeat will offer three levels of scholarships, which will be funded through our organization’s own fund as well as grants from nonprofit organizations with an interest in journalism. The levels are:
LEVEL I: Capitolbeat will wave the conference admission fee. This level of scholarship will be the most likely to be granted.
LEVEL II: Capitolbeat will wave the conference admission fee and pay part or all of your hotel costs. Scholarships at this level are limited and depend on funding from conference partners.
LEVEL III: Capitolbeat will wave the conference admission fee, pay part or all of your hotel costs and assist with travel costs including train, airfare or mileage. Our funding for Level III scholarships is extremely limited. They will be offered rarely and only in cases of extreme need.
Capitolbeat will not offer funding for meals or incidentals, although several Capitolbeat conference sessions include meals.
In order to apply for a scholarship, please apply by Sunday Sept. 7. Submit the following via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org:
- A letter stating which level of scholarship you are applying for, why you need the help and why you think our conference will be particularly helpful in your work. For Level I applicants, please let us know if your employer has agreed to fund travel and hotel costs.
- An online link to you publication’s website and a separate link or electronic copy of recent statehouse story you have written.
- For level II and III applicants only: A letter from your supervisor stating that they will allow you to attend the conference if a scholarship is awarded and information regarding what, if any assistance your employer can provide. (This requirement will be waved for freelancers who are paying their own way.)
We look forward to hearing from you and hope to see you at Capitolbeat 2008.
